Our Mission
Financial Capability for Every Family
The Family Financial Literacy Lab exists to give middle and high school students and their families the knowledge, skills, and confidence to make sound financial decisions — together.
Why It Matters
Literacy Isn't Enough
There is an important difference between financial literacy and financial capability — and that difference is at the heart of everything the Family Financial Literacy Lab does.
Knowing what a budget is. Understanding the definition of interest. Being able to identify a savings account. Financial literacy is foundational — but knowledge alone doesn't change behavior.
Being able to build a budget, adjust it when income falls short, explain the tradeoffs to your family, and actually follow through. Capability is literacy in action — applied, practiced, and reinforced at home.
The Gap We Close
Most financial education programs stop at literacy. The Family Financial Literacy Lab is designed to close the gap between knowing and doing — by teaching students to apply financial skills in real scenarios, and by bringing families into the learning process so those skills get practiced where it matters most: at home.
Mission & Vision
Our Mission
To equip middle and high school students and their families with the financial knowledge, skills, and confidence to make sound financial decisions — building capability that lasts a lifetime.
Our Vision
A future where every young person — regardless of zip code, income, or background — enters adulthood with the financial capability to build a stable, secure life.
What We Believe
Families learn together
Financial habits are formed at home. Programs that engage only students miss the most powerful reinforcement environment available.
Application beats awareness
Students who practice financial decision-making — not just study it — develop skills that transfer to real life.
Access is equity
Quality financial education should not be a privilege. Every school, every family, every student deserves the opportunity to build financial capability.
Community makes it possible
Schools, corporations, foundations, and community organizations all have a role to play in expanding financial capability for young people.
Join the Mission
The Family Financial Literacy Lab depends on partners who believe every young person deserves the tools to build a financially capable life. Whether you represent a school, a corporation, or a community organization — there is a meaningful role for you.
